The home of the Prenton Literary and Debating Society
The Society was founded in 1890 and has met continuously ever since. It is believed to be the oldest society of its kind in the country. It is open for anyone to join, or to attend as a guest. The cost of membership is £20 p.a. (£35 for a couple).
We meet on Tuesdays from October to March at 7-30 p.m. at the Pavilion of the Prenton Bowling Club, 65 Prenton Road West, Birkenhead CH42 9PZ (down the narrow lane between the BT Exchange and Abbeyfield). Parking available.
Members come from various parts of Wirral and beyond.
The Society seeks to achieve a good blend of talks and debates, and to reflect today’s world, whilst retaining its best traditions.
We are keen to attract visitors as potential new members. They have the opportunity to join in debate and discussion if they wish.
Meetings are conducted with the minimum of formalities in a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere of good humour and companionship.
Changes to the advertised meetings are rare, but inevitable on occasion: these will be noted on the Society’s Twitter or Facebook pages.
